When Mark and I were on San Cristobal in the Galapagos Islands (September 2018), we enjoyed playing with the Galapagos Sea Lions. They were so much fun to watch. As a Certified Personality Trainer (CPT) with CLASS Speakers, I always look for examples in nature to make a point. Normally, I'd use sea lions as examples of the Popular Sanguine personality. They just wanna have fun! So, I was playing with one of the "kid" sea lions on shore and along came the daddy sea lion -- a Powerful Choleric. He was chasing me down the beach and "barking" -- letting me know that it was not okay to be around his "kids." I got the message loud and clear. And I have to tell you, I was actually scared he was going to take a big bite out of me.
This week, those of us who are Certified Personality Trainers had a meeting of the minds and more training. I'm excited about offering some new seminars that will be a lot of fun: The Personali-TEAS (using tea to represent the different personalities); The Personali-TREES (using different Christmas trees to represent the four personalities); and a Snapshot of the Personalities (using different cameras to represent the different personalities). And my personal favorite -- The Patient Personalities -- given to cancer groups and medical offices. I'm a Popular Sanguine and Powerful Choleric (a 50/50 mix). That just means I have fun first and then work. Unless I'm in charge of a retreat or workshop, then my choleric personality will be in the driver's seat. Most of us are a combination of the four personality types; rarely do I meet a person who is 100% pure anything. And we usually marry our opposite. Popular Sanguines usually marry Perfect Melancholies and Powerful Cholerics usually marry Peaceful Phlegmatics. It's not about labels, but understanding how each person ticks, so we're better able to understand one another.
I highly recommend Marita Littauer's book "Wired That Way" as an excellent overview of the personalities. I trained under Marita and Florence Littauer and I'm so thankful for their insight through the years. I owe them a debt of gratitude!
